Spinal Braces

Spinal brace is a tool that is use in the body for various reasons. Generally a spinal brace is use as support to spinal fusion after surgery, try to correct spinal curve like in scoliosis without having to resort to surgery and it simply to protect spine after surgery. For some people, a brace may be worn just to correct posture, to protect your lower back when lifting heavy objects or manage back pain.

A spinal brace is usually made of plastic and is created in different sizes and designs. It depends on the area of the spine that is being corrected. Lumbar braces restrict movement in the lower part of the body and the cervical collar restricts any movement in the neck. There are also full torso braces like Milwaukee or TLSO.

Full torso spinal brace is created differently. There are some that is referred to as body jackets, it is designed to go under the armpits and reach the chest and the upper back and down to the hips. There are others that incorporate a neck brace to the design. Other designs make a leg and hip brace connected to the torso brace which prevents the one who use it to bend. Individuals who use this type of brace have to remain in flat or reclined position. Bracing is use for treatment of spinal curvature problem.

Spinal brace is usually worn twenty-four hours especially if it is use to correct spinal curvature or worn after a surgery. This is only removed when bathing. Surgeons usually prescribed brace after spinal fusion surgery to avoid all movements in the spine for several months. This is important so that the fusion will have the time to heal and grow. However braces that are use just to correct posture, encourage safe lifting practices or mild back pain is only worn as needed.

There are different brands of spinal brace available in the market today. Go with your doctor’s recommendation of the kind of brace and the brand. If you simply use brace to correct posture then do your research online and find the best spinal brace that would fit your needs.
