Back Pain In The Shoulder Blade

Shoulders are vital part of the body and pain in shoulder blade is quite common. Its structure is quite vulnerable to pain due to inflammation, sprain, tears and strains. The muscles and ligaments in the shoulder can be the cause of back pain. Pain felt in the shoulder blades can be unbearable sometimes.

What are the causes of pain in the shoulder blade?

  • Rotator cuff binds the shoulder joints together and this muscle is very sensitive to stress and tension.
  • Bursae are small sack of fluid which controls the movement of the shoulder blades. These bursae can be infected, swollen or inflamed which will result to acute pain at the shoulder.
  • Disc herniation in the neck and neck arthritis can result to pinched nerves and with this you often experience pain in your shoulder blades.
  • The trigger points located in the side and front muscles of the neck can result into an annoying pain in the shoulder blades. This is sometimes the cause for upper back pain.
  • Shoulders’ movements are also controlled by two trapezius muscle which is located at the back of the neck and covers the shoulders too. This muscle is very sensitive to tension, stress, frustrations and poor posture. Sitting for long hours in the office or driving for too long can develop muscle spasms that would result to pains in the shoulders.

Be warned though if you feel pain under the shoulder blade then it may be cause by some other organ of the body that is worth investigating immediately. It may refer to some problem in the stomach or the heart. Pain in the shoulders are sometimes cause by heart attack so be very careful and do not ignore the signs that your body gives you. Treatment of back pain in the shoulder blade can be treated by simple exercise that involves the neck and the shoulders. You can simply rotate or move up and down. Pain might also go away by simple massage and applying balm on the affected area or taking of over-the-counter medication. If shoulder back pain persists then you should consult your doctor immediately.
