How To Treat Back Pain

Back pain is a common problem of most people these days. The usual reason why people miss work is because they have back pains. It can be such a bothersome at times. The probable reason for back pain is the alarming increase of obesity and also of bad postures or any other serious conditions in the spine.

Generally back pain is just cause from poor posture thus can be easily treated and corrected. Let us now look at how to treat back pain.

  • Improper position while you sleep contributes a lot to back pain the moment you wake up in the morning. Too soft mattress fails to maintain the normal curve of the spine thus resulting to pinching nerves between the spinal bones. It is good then if you have a medium-firm mattress which can support your back while you are sleeping and besides using a medium-firm mattress can be effective for those who suffers low backpain (The Lancet 2003).
  • Being over weight can cause back pain. Too much weight can put strain in your backbone and other parts of your body like your knee, ankles and hips. Thus it is important that you lose weight and maintain the right weight for your age.
  • Heat therapy can relieve pain. This should be part of your daily routine. Heat increases the circulation of the blood thus increasing the blood flow in the inflamed tissues.
  • Muscle stretching might work to slowly relax the tight muscles. Massage would be great.
  • Medications like naproxen, ibuprofen and other narcotic drugs can help relieve the pain. However it is important that you consult your doctor before taking any of these medications.

If the pain persists or keeps on coming back, it is important that you consult your doctor for it might pose a more serious problem. Do not take any chances with your health. Pain is a sign that something is wrong with your system thus one should not ignore it and seek medical attention immediately. Treating back pain can be done conservatively but if back pain does not respond then a more advance form of treatment like surgery may be necessary.
